How to convert words to pages

Enter your word count, pick the font, size, and spacing you're using, and the calculator estimates your page count from a words-per-page figure built into that preset. Switch to "Pages → Words" if you know your page limit and need to know roughly how many words that gives you to work with.

What changes the estimate

Font, font size, and line spacing have the biggest effect. Double-spaced 12pt Times New Roman averages around 275 words per page with 1-inch margins; single-spacing roughly doubles that to around 500. Paper size and margin width shift the number further: A4 is slightly taller than US Letter, and tighter margins fit more text per page. Paragraph spacing, headings, block quotes, and any images or tables also change how much text physically fits, in ways this calculator can't see from a word count alone.

Academic vs. book estimates

Academic mode is built for essays, papers, and assignments with standard double-spaced formatting. Book mode is built for manuscripts and uses a flat words-per-page number you set directly, since published book formatting varies far more than a typical academic paper.

This is an estimate, not a guarantee

Treat the result as a planning number for outlining an assignment or checking you're in range of a page requirement. Your word processor's live page count, once your document is actually formatted, is the number that matters for submission. If your assignment gives a formatting checklist, the thesis formatting checker can help you confirm your settings match.

How many pages is 1000 words?

About 3.6 pages double-spaced in 12pt Times New Roman with 1-inch margins, or about 2 pages single-spaced. Change the font, size, or spacing and the estimate changes with it, which is why this tool calculates from your actual settings instead of a single fixed number.

Why does my word processor show a different page count?

Your word processor knows your exact paragraph breaks, headings, and any images or tables, none of which this calculator can see. Treat this tool's result as a close planning estimate, and your word processor's live count as the actual figure once your document is written.

Why is book mode different from academic mode?

Published books use a smaller trim size and tighter, professionally typeset text, which fits more words per page than a double-spaced academic paper. A 1,000-word academic essay in 12pt double spacing runs about 3.6 pages; the same 1,000 words on a typeset novel page runs closer to 3 pages, depending on the words-per-page setting you choose.

Does this count words or characters?

Words. If you need an exact word count from real text first, use the word count calculator, then bring that number here.
